Denver Archbishop Samuel Aquila has given one of the most powerful elections statements by any Catholic leader. He says Catholics in good conscience can’t support candidates who are pro-abortion.
The Archbishop is right having enshrined his statement in “appeal to sober conscience.” Unfortunately, many people who are entrusted in forming the conscience have failed. We have many Catholics doing contrary to the well formed conscience. It sadden to see that a good number of those who have killed unborn babies claim to profess catholic faith. We remember even this was an issues in the last year’s synod.
I’ve used the word kill since many people seems to see a great difference between abortion and killing. The word abortion has been used quite a lot and seem not to give a surge to human conscience. It’s high time we call it by what it is. It is killing.
We have to go back to the drawing board and see where we lost the track of forming the conscience.
But Archbishop Aquila goes further. He says Democrats are “aggressively pro-abortion” because they are pushing taxpayer funding of abortions and because they will appoint judges who support abortion. Naturally that includes Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president who is spearheading that agenda.
Coming to the idea of who is who here, Hillary may be pro-abortion but will she ever abort? No she is past that. Will she force people to abort? No, they have their rights protected by the American Constitution. Going back to conscience, people with formed conscience will not abort even if the abortion is provided freely in any hospital from the goverment funds.
Lets form the conscience.
Trump may be a pro-life (i really doubt) if that is bracketed for “against abortion (killing of unborn” but in the principle of doubt are we sure we won’t go to war with other countries? What is happening between USA and Russia need not be assumed.
If Trump who is against or doesn’t speak of abortion but if he will be used by the absolute spirit (Heideggar) and push the button of world war iii, how many will die?
Thus, incase of doubt the principle of lesser evil should be applied.
Catholic voters must make themselves aware of where the parties stand on these essential issues. The right to life is the most important and fundamental right, since life is necessary for any of the other rights to matter. There are some issues that can legitimately be debated by Christians, such as which policies are the most effective in caring for the poor, but the direct killing of innocent human life must be opposed at all times by every follower of Jesus Christ. There are no legitimate exceptions to this teaching.
The Archbishop proposed preferential option for the poor and those unable including the unborn.
It will be lesser evil to elect Hillary Clinton and then stream our energy in forming the conscience of the people so that even if evil is set before our eyes covered with gold and good is set next to it covered with feases, people will choose the feases covered good.
Lets take a risk.
